Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Skein mobile application ("the App") operated by CrushIT, Roman Nikitin, based in Spain ("we", "us", "our"). Skein was previously known as "Tarot Deck" during development.

By using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. The App

Skein is a private reflection journal built around a daily card ritual. The deck draws a single archetypal image as the day's writing prompt; the journal (with voice and photo capture, longitudinal pattern analytics, themed parchment covers, and physical-deck companion features) is where the user makes meaning. The App is for entertainment and self-reflection only.

Important: Card draws and any accompanying reference material (keywords, symbolism, element, numerology) are for entertainment and self-reflection purposes only. They do not constitute professional advice of any kind (medical, financial, legal, psychological, or otherwise). The App never tells you what a card means or what will happen; you interpret the symbolism yourself. You should not make important life decisions based solely on a card draw.

The developer (Roman Nikitin) is a software developer, not a licensed therapist, psychologist, medical professional, counsellor, or fortune teller. The App does not provide professional services of any kind and is not a substitute for any.

Pattern Mirror & analytics: The Pattern Mirror feature displays mathematical aggregations of your own historical entries (calendar heatmap, card frequency, deck cohort breakdowns, suit/reversed distributions, unexplored cards, etc.). These are descriptive recaps of past data you yourself entered — they are not predictive, prescriptive, or diagnostic. They are not a substitute for professional psychological assessment or self-assessment tools developed by licensed clinicians.

1.5 Mental Health & Crisis

Skein is a journaling tool, not a mental health service. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, suicidal thoughts, self-harm urges, or any form of crisis, please contact emergency services or a crisis support line immediately:

For ongoing mental health support, please consult a licensed therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, or your physician. Skein does not provide diagnosis, treatment, crisis intervention, or any form of medical or psychological care, and is not designed for use as such.

2. Accounts & Age

You may use the App without creating an account. Core features work fully offline.
To sync data across devices and make purchases, you may sign in with Apple or Google.
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account.
Minimum age: The App is rated 12+ on the App Store. By using Skein, you confirm you are at least 12 years old. In the European Union, parental consent is required to provide personal data if you are under 16 (per GDPR Article 8; Spain sets this at 14). If you are between 12 and the digital-consent age in your country, a parent or guardian must review these Terms with you before you sign in or make any purchase. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 12; if you believe a child has provided us data, please contact us and we will delete it.
We reserve the right to suspend accounts that violate these Terms.

3. In-App Purchases & Subscription

3.1 One-time cosmetic items

The App offers optional cosmetic items (card decks, card backs, table styles, visual flip effects, journal themes) for purchase.
All purchases are processed through Apple App Store or Google Play Store and are subject to their respective terms.
Cosmetic purchases are non-consumable — you buy them once and keep them permanently across all devices signed in to the same Apple ID / Google account.
Purchased items are cosmetic only and do not affect app functionality or card-draw outcomes.
Refunds are handled by Apple or Google according to their refund policies.
Free and unlockable items may be earned through app usage (streaks, achievements, levels).
Prices may change at any time. Purchases made before a price change are not affected.

3.2 Skein Plus — auto-renewing subscription

Skein Plus is an optional auto-renewing subscription that unlocks additional features (Pattern Mirror Pro, unlimited journal search and filter, CSV and PDF archive export, unlimited registered physical decks, the Stellar Atlas journal theme, and cloud backup).

Pricing: $4.99 USD per month (or local equivalent shown on the in-app paywall) for the monthly tier, $39.99 USD per year (or local equivalent — approximately 33% saving versus monthly) for the yearly tier. Final price and currency are displayed on the paywall before purchase and on the App Store receipt.
Auto-renewal: Payment is charged to your Apple ID / Google account at confirmation of purchase. Subscription automatically renews for the same period (monthly or yearly) at the same price unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
How to cancel: You can cancel your subscription at any time in your device's subscription settings — on iOS, Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions; on Android, Google Play → Account → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you retain access to Plus features until then.
No refunds for partial periods: We do not offer partial refunds for cancelled subscriptions. Apple and Google may grant refunds in line with their own policies.
No free trial in the current release. If we add a trial in a future build, the trial terms will be displayed on the paywall before purchase, and unused trial time is forfeited on subscription.
Restore Purchases: A "Restore Purchases" action on the paywall and in Settings re-validates your entitlement on new devices.
Patron codes: Skein Plus access may also be granted via redeemable patron codes (e.g. for supporters via Buy Me a Coffee). Codes are non-transferable and grant access for the period specified in the code. Patron codes do not auto-renew.
Feature changes: We may add, remove, or change the features included in Plus. We will not remove a feature you were specifically promised at the time of purchase without offering a comparable replacement or a refund.

Purchases made through the Apple App Store are governed by the Apple Media Services Terms; purchases through Google Play are governed by the Google Play Terms of Service.

4. User Content

Journal entries and reflections you create are your content. You retain all rights to them.
We do not review, moderate, or use your journal content for any purpose other than storage and sync.
You may delete your content at any time through the App.
We are not responsible for the loss of locally stored content that was not synced to our servers.

5. Future Features

The App may introduce features including but not limited to:

Private sharing: Optional sharing of single reading entries via private links, primarily for in-person practitioners (e.g. a tarot reader sharing a layout with a client). Recipients do not need a Skein account to view a shared link, and the sharing user controls expiration and visibility. Detailed terms will accompany this feature.
Email communications: Optional weekly digests, Pattern Mirror summaries, or product updates. Requires separate opt-in consent.
Additional cosmetic categories: New decks, card backs, table textures, journal themes, and flip effects added over time.
Plus tier additions: We may add features to Skein Plus over time at no extra cost to existing subscribers.

We will update these Terms and our Privacy Policy before launching features that materially affect your data or rights. The App does not currently provide algorithmic or AI-generated card interpretations; if we ever introduce such a feature, it will be optional, clearly labelled, and subject to additional terms.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the App.
Use the App for any unlawful purpose.
Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our servers or other users' data.
Redistribute, resell, or commercially exploit the App's content (card artwork, designs, sounds).
Use automated means (bots, scrapers) to access the App.
Harass, abuse, or harm other users through any future social features.

7. Intellectual Property

The App (Skein), including its name, design, artwork, card illustrations, animations, sounds, and code, is owned by CrushIT and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.
Card deck artwork is either original, AI-generated (owned by us), or licensed for commercial use.
Tarot card names and traditional symbolism are in the public domain.
You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from the App's artwork or designs.

8. Disclaimer

The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that:

The App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.
Card draws, reference material, or pattern dashboards will be accurate, meaningful, or applicable to your situation.
Data sync will work perfectly in all conditions.
Plus subscription features will remain unchanged over the lifetime of the App (see §3.2 on feature changes).

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, including Spanish and EU law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the App, including but not limited to:

Decisions made based on card draws or any reference material shown in the App.
Loss of data due to device failure or sync issues.
Service interruptions or unavailability.

Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for in-app purchases in the 12 months preceding the claim.

Nothing in this section limits any liability that cannot be excluded under applicable consumer-protection law (in particular under Spanish and EU consumer rights legislation).

10. Indemnification

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law (and subject to non-waivable consumer-protection rights in your jurisdiction), you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Skein (Roman Nikitin / CrushIT, sole developer), its affiliates, contractors, and successors from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from:

Your decisions or actions taken based on card draws, reference material, Pattern Mirror analytics, or any other content shown in the App.
Any harm, distress, financial loss, or consequence you or any third party suffers as a result of acting on a card draw, reflection, or App content.
Your violation of these Terms.
Your use of the App in a manner inconsistent with its intended purpose (entertainment and self-reflection).
Content you create, save, or share via any future sharing features (when introduced).
Your interactions with third parties via the App.

This clause does not apply to claims that result solely from our own gross negligence or wilful misconduct, and is limited to the extent permitted by Spanish and EU consumer-protection law.

11. Termination

You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it.
You may request account deletion by contacting us at r.nikitin.crushitapp@gmail.com.
We may suspend or terminate access to the App if you violate these Terms, with reasonable notice where possible.
Upon termination, your right to use the App ceases, but your locally stored data remains on your device.
Sections 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12 survive termination.

12. Dispute Resolution

We encourage you to contact us first at r.nikitin.crushitapp@gmail.com to resolve any dispute informally.
If informal resolution fails, disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Spain.
For EU consumers: you may also use the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/odr.

13. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes:

We will provide at least 14 days' notice through the App.
Continued use after the notice period constitutes acceptance.
If you do not agree with the changes, you may stop using the App and request account deletion.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Spain and applicable EU regulations, including GDPR and the EU Consumer Rights Directive. Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as an EU consumer.
